**Sean Williams’ Zimbabwe Cricket Career Ends Amid Battle with Drug Addiction**
Star Zimbabwe all-rounder Sean Williams’ cricketing career has come to an unexpected end amid his ongoing struggle with drug addiction. Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) recently announced that Williams will no longer be considered for national team selection.
Williams, aged 39, made himself unavailable ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2025. Opening up about his battles with addiction, the veteran cricketer voluntarily entered rehabilitation.
According to a report, Zimbabwe Cricket conducted an investigation into Williams’ unavailability for the Qualifier tournament. The board emphasized that all contracted players are expected to maintain professionalism, discipline, and comply with anti-doping regulations.
The report also revealed that Williams had a history of disciplinary issues and repeated unavailability, which has previously affected the team’s preparations. Consequently, Zimbabwe Cricket has decided that he will no longer be in contention for the national team. The board has recommended that Williams seeks professional help to overcome his challenges.
Due to concerns about professional and ethical standards, Zimbabwe Cricket has taken a firm stance on Williams’ future with the team. Additionally, his contract, which runs until December 31, 2025, will not be renewed.
Zimbabwe Cricket extended its gratitude to Sean Williams for his contributions to Zimbabwean cricket and wished him well in his recovery and future endeavors.
