Kasumi Celebrates Crab Season
At Kasumi Port, the only port in the Kansai region where red snow crabs are landed, the annual festival marked the season’s opening with lively events. Crabs freshly unloaded from fishing boats were sold at lower-than-usual prices, attracting many visitors eager to enjoy this seasonal delicacy.
The highlight of the day was the Crab Eating Championship, a contest to see how neatly participants could finish their crabs within five minutes. Spectators and participants alike enjoyed the festive atmosphere, adding excitement and cheer to the occasion.
One visitor commented, “It was delicious,” while another admitted, “Eating quickly was difficult.” When asked if crabs are best eaten slowly, a participant replied, “I want to enjoy them at my own pace.”
The red snow crab fishing season in Kasumi will continue until May 31st next year, offering plenty of opportunities for crab lovers to savor this local specialty.
