D&D Review – Starter Set & Stranger Things Collab
Wizards of the Coast recently rolled out two new sets for Dungeons & Dragons: the Starter Set and *Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club*. I had the opportunity to review both during the latest episode of *Pop! Goes the Culture!* In the review segment, which has been clipped below, I share my thoughts on these exciting new releases.
The Starter Set is designed to make D&D more accessible than ever before. It essentially transforms Dungeons & Dragons into a more conventional tabletop game, lowering the barrier of entry for new players. This is achieved through pre-made characters, cards featuring common spells and items, and multiple maps to enhance gameplay. All of these elements combine to create a streamlined experience that’s perfect for beginners.
*Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club* takes a similar approach but with a nostalgic twist. The set embraces an ’80s theme, tying directly into the popular Netflix show. Character sheets are based on the personas played by the characters in the series, and there’s a map drawn from their campaign world. Additionally, the set introduces new monsters, including the unique Demogorgon Dragon.
Visually, the *Hellfire Club* set stands out with its vintage ’80s aesthetic, giving Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition a distinctive retro feel. Whether you’re a fan of the show or just want a fresh take on your tabletop sessions, this set offers a compelling blend of nostalgia and gameplay innovation.
