Injury expert makes eye-opening Hawks’ Trae Young observation
The Atlanta Hawks secured a much-needed win, defeating the Brooklyn Nets 117-112, but the team now awaits crucial news concerning their star player, Trae Young.
Earlier in the game, Young suffered an injury after Mouhamed Gueye collided with the side of his leg, causing it to bend inward awkwardly. Young initially stayed on the floor but managed to walk off the court on his own. During the Hawks’ next offensive possession, Young attempted to sprint down the court but subsequently pulled himself out of the game and headed straight to the locker room.
Young is scheduled to undergo an MRI, but injury experts have already begun analyzing the situation. Among them is Jeff Stotts, who shared his observations on X (formerly Twitter):
“Just watched the Trae Young injury. As Mo Gueye falls into Young, the impact places a valgus stress through Young’s knee. This mechanism of injury places strain on the inside aspect of the knee, particularly the medial collateral ligament (MCL). Interested to see what the MRI shows.”
If the injury is confirmed to be an MCL sprain, Young could be sidelined for a few weeks — likely the best-case scenario given how his knee bent during the incident. However, any more severe injury could potentially keep him out for a longer period.
**Trae Young’s Injury Not ACL-Related**
After the game, Hawks head coach Quin Snyder addressed Young’s condition and was quick to clarify that the injury did not involve the ACL.
“Not sure how long (he’ll be out) or what respect, but something that he’s going to hopefully be back from whenever possible,” Snyder said. “He didn’t want to come out of the game. He’s such a competitor. He takes so much pride in being available.”
The Hawks have already faced injury challenges this season, with key players Kristaps Porzingis, Jalen Johnson, and Zaccharie Risacher missing games, although all have returned after brief absences. If Young faces an extended recovery, the team will need to rely heavily on these players and others to step up.
With Young sidelined for much of the recent game, Luke Kennard delivered his best performance as a Hawk, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker has consistently shown aggressive play throughout the season.
For now, the Atlanta Hawks remain hopeful as they await the official diagnosis. Fans and the team alike are hoping for good news regarding their star player’s health.
