Nomad’s land
Call them wandering mystics, if you will. But in vernacular terms, they are defined by one mighty compelling word: malang.
The malangs don’t have a place they’d call home. As such, they are almost nomadic. They often camp in small groups next to shrines and may associate themselves with the Sufis and shrines they visit.
They participate in festivals, known as Urs, and may also perform dhamal, a devotional dance. Since they do not seek material gains and have no steady source of income, they rely on langars at the shrines to receive their daily meals.
