
Guenther breaks late tie, Mammoth beat Jets 3-2 for 7th straight victory
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) – Dylan Guenther broke a tie with 5:36 left, leading the Utah Mammoth to their seventh straight win as they defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Sunday night.
Coming off a 6-2 victory in Minnesota on Saturday, the Mammoth improved their record to 8-2-0. Logan Cooley and JJ Peterka set up the game-winning goal, with Peterka stealing the puck from defenseman Haydn Fleury to start the scoring sequence.
Michael Carcone and Mikhail Sergachev also scored for Utah, while goaltender Vitek Vanecek made 28 saves to help secure the victory.
For Winnipeg, Mark Scheifele and Dylan DeMelo found the back of the net. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 29 shots in the loss.
The Jets managed to tie the game at 2-2 on the power play in the second period. With John Marino in the penalty box for interference, Scheifele received a pass from Josh Morrissey and fired a shot past Vanecek.
Utah regained the lead by scoring twice within a 1:04 span in the second period. Sergachev snapped a shot past Hellebuyck with 9:57 remaining, followed by Carcone finishing a 2-on-1 play with Kailer Yamamoto at 8:53.
