Boynton Beach homeowner denied grant by My Safe Florida Home program
**Frustration Over My Safe Florida Home Program Expressed by Boynton Beach Homeowner**
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — At our Let’s Hear It event this week, we spoke with a Boynton Beach homeowner who shared her frustration with the My Safe Florida Home program. Sandy Goepfert reached out after facing challenges in obtaining a $10,000 grant to help replace her roof.
Goepfert explained that she was recently informed she no longer qualifies for the grant, despite her neighbors still being eligible. The reason? Updated household income requirements now prioritize low and moderate-income homeowners.
“I don’t have a leaking roof, but I have a roof,” Goepfert said. “My house was built in 2003. The potential is, I have an old roof and if at any time I get a leak, I’d have to pay all of it, instead of the grant of $10,000.”
She is part of the well-known Group 5, which was eliminated this year by the Florida legislature. We’ve heard from many others in similar situations.
The rules for the My Safe Florida Home program are reviewed annually by lawmakers and could change again next year.
We want to thank everyone who came out to our Let’s Hear It event at the Boynton Beach Arts & Cultural Center this week. Thank you for trusting WPTV with your stories. It was a great turnout, and we’re already getting to work on the important issues you brought to our attention.
