Vikings OL Impacted By Game-Time Decisions On Key Starters
The Minnesota Vikings are set to face off against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night in California. Entering the game as three-point underdogs, the Vikings will look to overcome a challenging matchup on the road.
Much of the attention this past week has centered on the quarterback position. Speculation arose over whether JJ McCarthy would step back into the spotlight as the starting quarterback. However, head coach Kevin O’Connell opted to keep Carson Wentz in the lineup for now, as the team waits for McCarthy, the former Michigan standout, to return to full health.
An often overlooked but equally important focus during the week has been the status of Minnesota’s bookend tackles. Christian Darrisaw missed the first two games of the season while rehabbing a knee injury sustained in October 2024. He has managed to play over the past month, but a recent setback with his knee landed him on the injury report this week, with his playing status listed as “questionable” for Thursday night.
### One In, One Out at Tackle for the Minnesota Vikings
There is good news on the tackle front: Christian Darrisaw is set to play against the Chargers. Unfortunately, the other side of the line is less optimistic. Brian O’Neill, who also entered the week as “questionable” and missed Week 5’s game against the Browns due to an MCL sprain, has been ruled inactive for Thursday night’s game. O’Neill had managed to play in last week’s close loss to the Philadelphia Eagles but will be sidelined this week.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday afternoon: “For the Vikings, LT Christian Darrisaw is active, while RT Brian O’Neill is not. Darrisaw may be on a bit of a pitch count, which has happened in the past.”
Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
