Top Ride race mode returns in Kirby Air Riders
In the original Kirby Air Ride, there was a lighthearted and fun mode known as Top Ride. This mode offered players a top-down racing experience reminiscent of classic games like Off Road and Super Off Road. Fans will be pleased to know that Top Ride is making a return in Kirby Air Riders, featuring several upgrades designed to make it enjoyable for up to eight players.
Top Ride was a major highlight during the recent Kirby Air Riders Nintendo Direct presentation. In this mode, players race around tracks from an overhead viewpoint. The camera dynamically adjusts—it can follow a single player, scan across groups of racers, or display the entire track when many players are involved.
One of the standout features of Top Ride is its support for eight racers. Players can choose to go solo against seven computer-controlled bots, compete locally with up to four people on the same Nintendo Switch, or jump online to race with up to eight players. Additionally, any remaining slots in multiplayer matches can be filled with bots to ensure a full race experience.
Kirby Air Riders promises to be a compelling Kirby party game with a variety of gameplay options. Aside from traditional races in Air Ride, the game includes a battle royale-style mode in City Trial and the returning Top Ride mode. These diverse modes offer players plenty of choices for how and where to play.
Having had the opportunity to try early versions of the game, we are optimistic about how Kirby Air Riders is shaping up. With its mix of nostalgia and new features, it’s set to be an exciting addition to the Kirby series.
