Lakers, Raptors, Hornets, Trail Blazers involved in NBA gambling scandal: DOJ
Four NBA teams have been named in connection with the FBI’s sweeping investigation into illegal gambling. The Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Toronto Raptors were all mentioned in the indictment, officials confirmed.
Joseph Nocella Jr., the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, revealed these details during a press briefing, highlighting the scale of the investigation.
The multimillion-dollar scheme reportedly took place between January 2022 and March 2024. It involved individuals sharing non-public information with bettors, such as when players would be sitting out games or would pull themselves out early.
Importantly, the teams themselves are not implicated in any wrongdoing. Instead, the investigation focuses on current and former players and coaches accused of providing “non-public information” to insiders to help them place successful prop bets on NBA games.
Stay tuned for live updates on this developing NBA and mafia gambling scandal.
