Wall Street watches Netflix after closing bell
**Netflix to Report Third-Quarter Earnings Amid Diversification Efforts**
Oct. 21 (UPI) — Streaming giant Netflix is set to reveal its third-quarter earnings Tuesday after the closing bell on Wall Street. The company is expecting revenue to exceed $11 billion, with earnings around $6.97 per share for the quarter.
“Q3 saw Netflix making progress on a number of non-core initiatives including podcasts, physical locations, and games,” said Mike Proulx, vice president and research director at Forrester, in an interview with CNBC on Tuesday.
Recently, Netflix officials announced that the company will no longer provide investors with quarterly financial updates, marking a shift in its communication strategy.
Despite this change, analysts continue to view Netflix as a “moderate” buy, following significant earnings growth in the first two quarters of this year. This growth has been largely driven by higher subscription fees, increased new user sign-ups, and rising ad revenues.
However, Proulx raised a note of caution regarding Netflix’s diversification strategies. “Consumers choose Netflix because of its quality content,” he explained. “If the company goes too broad to become all things entertainment, it risks diluting its core.”
Meanwhile, Netflix executives were scheduled to hold a call with analysts before the close of the business day to discuss the earnings report and answer questions about the company’s future direction.
