Caleb Williams is on pace to become the Bears’ first 4,000-yard passer

The Chicago Bears haven’t had a true franchise quarterback since Sid Luckman. However, they might have found one in Caleb Williams.

Through five games, Williams has already amassed 1,179 passing yards, averaging an impressive 235.8 yards per game. If we multiply that average by a 17-game season, Williams is on pace to throw for approximately 4,008 yards.

Should Williams reach this milestone, he would become the first quarterback in Bears franchise history to throw for 4,000 or more yards in a single season. Currently, the Bears’ single-season passing yards leader is Erik Kramer, who threw for 3,838 yards in 1995—not Jay Cutler, as some might assume.

Interestingly, the Bears are the only NFL team to have never had a 4,000-yard passer. In the history of the league, this feat has been accomplished 233 times. The first player to reach the 4,000-yard mark was Joe Namath, who threw for 4,007 yards with the New York Jets in 1967.

With Caleb Williams’ current pace, he could make history and redefine the quarterback legacy for the Bears franchise.
