2024年に発生した能登半島地震について、東北大学の研究チームは、地下の震源付近に存在する固まった古いマグマの巨大な塊がひずみを蓄積し、その後壊れることで地震の大規模化が引き起こされたという解析結果を、米科学誌に2025年10月15日付で発表しました。
この解析によれば、地震発生のメカニズムにマグマの塊が大きく関わっていることが明らかになり、今後の地震予測や防災対策に重要な示唆をもたらすと期待されています。
