**Infosys Challenges ₹415 Crore GST Notice in Karnataka High Court**
*By Akash Pandey | October 9, 2025, 5:21 PM*
**Overview**
Infosys has moved the Karnataka High Court to challenge a show-cause notice worth ₹415 crore issued by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI). The IT giant contests allegations that it wrongly claimed input tax credit (ITC) refunds on services provided by its overseas branches.
**Details of the Notice**
In May 2025, the DGGI sought details regarding Infosys’ GST refund claims. Infosys responded by providing the requested information and engaging in several meetings with officials. Despite requesting additional time to reply to a pre-show cause notice dated July 30, the DGGI issued a final notice on August 12 for ₹414.88 crore, excluding interest and penalties.
The agency argues that the services rendered by Infosys’s overseas branches do not qualify as ‘export of services’ under GST law, forming the basis of their claim.
**Legal Action Initiated by Infosys**
On September 19, 2025, Infosys filed a writ petition in the Karnataka High Court challenging the validity of the DGGI’s notice. The company stated that it carefully evaluated the merits of the notice based on advice from external tax and legal experts.
Importantly, Infosys clarified that “there is no tax demand as of date” related to this matter.
**Compliance and Impact**
Infosys reiterated its commitment to full compliance with all central and state GST regulations. The company emphasized that this development does not have any material impact on its operations or financials.
Additionally, Infosys assured stakeholders that it will continue making the necessary disclosures to stock exchanges in adherence to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) listing obligations.
**Background**
This challenge follows a similar show-cause demand issued by the DGGI on July 31, 2024, alleging tax evasion exceeding ₹32,000 crore.
