BJP alleges TMC attack on MP Khagen Murmu in West Bengal
**BJP’s Amit Malviya Condemns Mamata Banerjee Over Attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu, Alleges “Jungle Raj” in West Bengal**
Amit Malviya, BJP’s Information Technology Cell Chief and the party’s central observer for West Bengal, launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday. He condemned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the recent attack on the party’s Lok Sabha member, Khagen Murmu, and claimed that the TMC has established a “Jungle Raj” in the state.
Khagen Murmu, a two-time BJP Lok Sabha member from the Maldaha-Uttar constituency in Malda district, was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress activists on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred while Murmu was on his way to Nagrakata in the Jalpaiguri district.
According to reports from news agency IANS, the attack coincided with ongoing relief and rescue efforts for the people of the hills, Terai, and Dooars regions of North Bengal, who have been severely affected by devastating rains, floods, and landslides in recent days.
Malviya further criticized the state administration and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for their absence during the natural disaster in North Bengal. He accused TMC workers of attacking BJP leaders and workers who were attempting to carry out relief efforts despite the challenging circumstances.
Posting on his social media handle X, Malviya stated:
*”While Mamata Banerjee dances at her Kolkata Carnival, the TMC and state administration are missing in action. Those actually helping the people, BJP leaders and karyakartas, are being attacked for doing relief work. This is TMC’s Bengal, where cruelty rules and compassion is punished.”*
BJP’s Chief Whip Shankar Ghosh was accompanying Khagen Murmu at the time of the attack. He sustained minor injuries when a group of Trinamool Congress supporters allegedly attacked their vehicle upon reaching Bamandanga.
Ghosh described the incident, saying,
*”They attacked our vehicle with sticks and rods and started pelting stones at our vehicle. Murmu was hit on his head by a stone, which led to severe bleeding. Our vehicle was also heavily damaged.”*
(This statement was cited by IANS.)
The alleged attack on BJP workers has intensified the political divide between the BJP and the TMC. What should have been a relief operation has turned into yet another flashpoint in West Bengal’s already charged political environment.
As floodwaters continue to engulf homes and farmlands in the region, the political battle over who is aiding or obstructing relief work grows fiercer by the day.
