Actor Saif Ali Khan recently opened up about his film career, reflecting on his journey from the early 1990s to the evolution he experienced after 2000. In an exclusive interview with *Esquire India*, Saif also shared his thoughts on why he believes “working with wives and girlfriends isn’t a good idea.”
### Career Evolution
Saif Ali Khan looked back at his early days in Bollywood, recalling how people often told him, “lucky you’ve got so many chances.” He admitted that during this time, he wasn’t landing the best roles or being cast as the main lead. However, as his career progressed, Saif discovered that he thrived in “healthy competition” and enjoyed “riffing off his co-stars.”
This insight contributed to his belief that working with close family members, such as wives or girlfriends, could complicate professional dynamics. According to him, maintaining a clear boundary between personal and work life is crucial, which is why he is hesitant about collaborating with spouses professionally.
### Film Partnerships with Kareena Kapoor Khan
Despite this cautious stance, Saif has worked with his current wife, actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, in several films. Their shared screen appearances include notable movies such as *LOC Kargil* (2003), *Omkara* (2006), *Tashan*, *Roadside Romeo* (2008), *Kurbaan* (2009), and *Agent Vinod* (2012). The duo has also featured together in various advertisements.
In 2021, Saif mentioned in an interview with Pinkvilla that for them to work together again, the project would need to be truly remarkable. He emphasized that they would want to be cast by a director purely based on their acting merits, “not because we are husband and wife.”
Notably, Saif has never collaborated professionally with his ex-wife, Amrita Singh.
### Latest Projects
Saif Ali Khan was recently seen in the Netflix film *Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins*, starring alongside Jaideep Ahlawat, Kunal Kapoor, and Nikita Dutta. The film is directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal.
Meanwhile, Kareena Kapoor Khan was last featured in Rohit Shetty’s *Singham Again*, sharing the screen with Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, and Arjun Kapoor. She is set to appear next in Meghna Gulzar’s crime-drama thriller *Daayra* with Prithviraj Sukumaran.
