Actor-producer Abhishek Banerjee is thrilled as his film *Stolen* has received two prestigious nominations at the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA) 2025.
The film’s director, Karan Tejpal, earned a nod for Best Director in his directorial debut, while *Stolen* itself has been nominated for Best Feature Film (Fiction). Speaking to Mid-day, Banerjee expressed his excitement: “I feel *Stolen* was made for a universal audience. Thanks to the guts of Gaurav [Dhingra, producer] and Karan, it’s representing India at the prestigious event.”
**About the Film**
Set in rural India, *Stolen* follows the gripping story of two brothers who embark on a mission to help a woman rescue her kidnapped child. The film stars Abhishek Banerjee alongside Shubham Vardhan and Mia Maelzer.
Reflecting on the film’s journey and its unique appeal, Banerjee said, “It’s not easy to stand by a film like this. It’s not a big-budget spectacle or a formulaic drama, but that was the reason we wanted to do it.”
**Director’s Vision and Praise**
Banerjee praised Karan Tejpal’s sensitive approach to storytelling. “Karan brought sensitivity to the subject. He never treated it like just another thriller; he wanted it to be honest and human,” said Banerjee. He added, “It takes courage for a debut director to stick to his vision the way Karan did.”
**Competition Ahead**
*Stolen* will compete in the Best Feature Film (Fiction) category against films like *Lembayung* (Indonesia), *Bullet Train Explosion* (Japan), and *Though Dead, Still Alive* (Taiwan).
With these nominations, *Stolen* has firmly positioned itself as a poignant and noteworthy film representing Indian cinema on the international stage.
