Actor-producer Abhishek Banerjee is celebrating as his film *Stolen* has received two prestigious nominations at the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA) 2025. The film’s director, Karan Tejpal, earned a nod for Best Director in his directorial debut, while *Stolen* itself is nominated for Best Feature Film (Fiction).
Speaking to Mid-day, Banerjee expressed his excitement: “I feel *Stolen* was made for a universal audience. Thanks to the guts of Gaurav [Dhingra, producer] and Karan, it’s representing India at this prestigious event.”
**About the Film**
*Stolen* is set in rural India and stars Abhishek Banerjee alongside Shubham Vardhan and Mia Maelzer. The story centers around two brothers who embark on a mission to help a woman rescue her kidnapped child.
Reflecting on the film’s journey and the nominations, Banerjee said, “It’s not easy to stand by a film like this. It’s not a big-budget spectacle or a formulaic drama but that was exactly why we wanted to do it.”
**Director’s Vision Praised**
Banerjee praised Karan Tejpal for his sensitive and authentic approach to the narrative. “Karan brought sensitivity to the subject. He never treated it like just another thriller; he wanted it to be honest and human,” Banerjee remarked. “It takes courage for a debut director to stick to his vision the way Karan did.”
*Stolen* will be competing in the Best Feature Film (Fiction) category against titles like *Lembayung* (Indonesia), *Bullet Train Explosion* (Japan), and *Though Dead, Still Alive* (Taiwan).
The nominations highlight a significant milestone for the film, showcasing its impact beyond Indian cinema and underlining the strength of storytelling that crosses cultural boundaries.
