**BJP, JDS Slam Congress Over DK Shivakumar’s Survey Response**

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has come under criticism after refusing to answer certain questions in the ongoing socio-economic and educational survey conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes. The survey, which began on September 22 and is set to conclude on October 7, recently saw enumerators visiting Shivakumar’s residence in Bengaluru’s Sadashivnagar.
### Shivakumar Expresses Frustration Over Survey
The Deputy Chief Minister appeared visibly frustrated with the lengthy process and the personal nature of some survey questions. Shivakumar advised officials to “keep it simple” and concentrate on basic information such as caste, educational qualification, and government benefits received by households.
He also questioned the relevance of certain queries, including those about cattle rearing and gold possession, sarcastically asking if he was expected to run a poultry business.
### Opposition Parties Criticize Congress Government
The survey response from Shivakumar sparked a strong backlash from opposition parties. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) described the exercise as “confused and poorly planned.” State BJP chief BY Vijayendra stated that Shivakumar’s reaction highlights the confusion created by the survey. He accused the Congress government of rushing into the survey without adequate preparation and criticized the timing, especially in light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement to include caste enumeration in the national census.
### Janata Dal (Secular) Joins the Chorus
Joining the BJP in its criticism, the Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) pointed out that Shivakumar himself refused to answer several questions during the survey. The party alleged that Shivakumar rejected the caste census survey model and the questions prepared by “Rahul Gandhi and team,” without providing proper information.
The ongoing controversy underscores rising political tensions surrounding the survey and raises questions about its planning and execution by the Congress government in Karnataka.
