NPFL: Rivers United overcome Niger Tornadoes, stay unbeaten
Rivers United secured a 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, maintaining their unbeaten start to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The first half of the rescheduled matchday six encounter saw both teams unable to find the back of the net, as chances were limited and neither side hit the target.
The deadlock was broken in the 50th minute when Maclyn Biokpo converted a penalty to give Rivers United the lead. This goal proved to be the difference as the Port Harcourt-based club held on for the win.
With this result, Rivers United extended their impressive home unbeaten streak in the NPFL to 16 matches. The side, managed by Finidi George, last tasted defeat at home against Bayelsa United on November 10, 2024.
Following the victory, Rivers United climbed to third place on the league table, while Niger Tornadoes dropped to fourth.
