Important Changes Taking Effect from October 2025
As October 2025 begins, several important changes have come into effect across various sectors. These new rules will impact common people in areas such as banking, travel, pensions, and postal services. Here is a simple breakdown of what has changed from October 1.
UPI Rule Changed – P2P Collect Request Stopped
Starting today, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has discontinued the P2P (peer-to-peer) collect request feature in UPI apps.
- This feature previously allowed users to send a request to others to pay them money.
- Now, this option is no longer available.
- The change aims to increase safety and reduce fraud in UPI transactions.
- However, normal UPI payments and transfers will continue to work as usual.
New Train Ticket Booking Rule
The Indian Railways has introduced a new rule for booking tatkal (urgent) tickets. During the first 15 minutes after the tatkal reservation window opens, only users who have completed Aadhaar verification can book tickets.
This rule applies exclusively to tatkal tickets and is intended to reduce fraud and misuse in the booking process.
Changes in Pension Scheme Charges
The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has updated the fee structure related to pension accounts:
- Government employees opening new PRAN accounts will now have to pay Rs 18 for the e-PRAN kit.
- Fee structures for NPS Lite users have been simplified.
Speed Post Service Updated
India Post has rolled out several updates to its Speed Post service to improve user experience and security.
- Charges have been revised — increased in some cities and decreased in others.
- New features include OTP-based delivery, real-time tracking, and online booking options.
LPG Cylinder Price Increased
As part of monthly price revisions, new LPG prices came into effect from October 1.
The price of commercial LPG cylinders has increased by over Rs 15. However, there is no change in the price of domestic cooking gas cylinders.
