Amid floods, govt has extended deadline to fill Class 12 exam forms: Shinde
Deputy Chief Minister Shinde has received numerous calls from students and parents in flood-affected areas, highlighting their difficulties in meeting the deadline to fill out the Class 12 exam forms, news agency ANI reported.
Speaking to reporters, Shinde said, “I was getting calls from many students and farmer parents in the flood-affected areas. They were saying that due to the flood situation, it is not possible for the 12th standard students to fill out the exam form. Tomorrow is the last date to fill out the 12th standard exam form.”
In response, Shinde intervened and spoke to Education Minister Dada Bhuse. Following this discussion, the deadline to submit the Class 12 exam form has been extended to October 20, ANI reported.
“I understood the situation and spoke to the Education Minister Dada Bhuse over the phone and considering the difficulties of the parents and students, the exam date of the 12th standard students was postponed to October 20. Due to this, many students will get relief,” he stated.
This decision aims to provide much-needed relief to thousands of students who were struggling to meet the original deadline because of the flood situation. The extension will allow students to focus on their studies without the added pressure of submitting the forms on time, ensuring they can appear for the exams without any hindrance.
### Impact of Recent Floods on Students
The recent floods in Maharashtra have caused significant disruptions, severely affecting students’ ability to study and prepare for their exams. Many students have lost their study materials, including books and notes, further exacerbating their challenges.
### Maharashtra Floods: IMD Issues Orange Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, according to ANI.
Thane District Collector Shrikrishna Panchal stated that relocation plans are in place for 42 riverside villages as a precautionary measure.
### Deputy CM Shinde on Flood Preparedness
On Sunday, Deputy CM Shinde assured that officials are on high alert and ready to manage heavy rainfall amid the ongoing flood situation in the Marathwada region.
“All officials are on alert. We are prepared to handle heavy rainfall whenever it happens. Arrangements are in place, from boats to pumping equipment. Many buildings in Thane and Ulhasnagar have been affected by the rain, and people will be shifted if necessary. Wherever there is a chance of water accumulation, people will be relocated. Officials are working as a team, and people will be provided relief,” Shinde said.
### Chief Minister’s Review and Relief Efforts
Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis conducted a detailed review of the flood situation in Solapur and Beed districts, directing the administration to intensify relief and rescue operations while ensuring the safety of citizens amid ongoing heavy rainfall in the Marathwada region.
In Solapur, the CM was informed that 4,002 people have been rescued from flood-affected areas so far, while nearly 6,500 people are currently staying in relief camps. These camps are equipped with food, drinking water, and healthcare facilities.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation is also providing meals to villages as needed. To address fodder shortages for livestock, Fadnavis ordered immediate supply arrangements, which will be expanded starting Monday.
Damage assessments of affected houses are underway on a large scale. Interim relief measures include providing families with Rs 10,000 in cash, along with 10 kg of rice and 10 kg of wheat.
Villages along rivers have been placed on high alert, with evacuation plans ready if needed. In Ashti, 60 citizens have already been shifted to safety. Since September, 2,567 families have been relocated due to flooding.
Tragically, ten people have lost their lives, and financial assistance has been provided to eight affected families so far.
Fadnavis instructed officials in both districts to remain on the ground and coordinate closely with state agencies to ensure that relief measures—especially food, water, healthcare, and fodder supply—are sustained without interruption. He emphasised the proactive evacuation of vulnerable villages to prevent loss of life.
