Jerry Jones: Micah Parsons in green and gold ‘is a little problem for me’
While Micah Parsons has taken the field at AT&T Stadium many times, Sunday night marked the first time he did so for the Green Bay Packers. As Parsons ran out of the tunnel for pregame warmups during the Week 4 Sunday Night Football matchup between the Packers and Cowboys, fans had the opportunity to hear from the man responsible for trading him to Green Bay—Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Parsons was interviewed by NBC’s Maria Taylor and former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett as he made his way onto the field. Addressing Garrett, Jones said, “Jason of all people, you know my personal feeling with great players.” He went on to reflect on the crowd’s reaction, comparing it to past moments, “When you hear the crowd and see that player come back, it reminds me of when we played Herschel Walker or when Emmitt Smith came back. They get a great ovation, just as he’s getting here tonight.”
Taylor then asked Jones what it felt like to see Parsons in a Green Bay uniform. Jones replied, “Well, of course, I’ve seen that trot and seen him run out like that for four straight years, so I’ve seen it. The green and gold is a little problem for me, looking at it. But I have to think about the kinds of consideration that we got on the trade. That’s the way I’ve always done it. It might not be that Christmas that the bicycle got under the tree. But thinking ahead, you could have a motorcycle under that thing.”
As both owner and general manager of the Cowboys, Jones’s comments about seeing Parsons in Packers colors carry extra weight. His remark about the green and gold being “a little problem” feels notable for two reasons: first, he didn’t have to trade Parsons, and second, he certainly didn’t have to trade him to a division rival like the Packers.
Jones’s bicycle-to-motorcycle analogy about the trade remains subjective—whether it makes sense or not depends on one’s perspective. However, it’s unquestionably “on brand” for Jones, whose personality and communication style have long been part of his public persona. Whether that impression is good or bad ultimately lies in the eyes and ears of the beholders.
