Delhi Rains: Flood-Like Situation In Low-Lying Areas As Yamuna Flowing Over Danger Mark, Water Enters Relief Camps – Latest Developments
**Heavy Rains Lash Delhi, Leading to Waterlogging and Flooding in Several Areas**
*New Delhi:* Heavy rains have been battering Delhi and its adjoining areas for the past few days, causing significant waterlogging and traffic snarls across the city.
The water level in the Yamuna River at Delhi’s Old Railway Bridge—an essential observation point for monitoring the river’s flow and potential flood risks—stood at 207.47 metres at 9 am. While the level was static between 2 am and 5 am at 207.47 metres, it slightly rose to 207.48 metres at 6 am. The rising water continues to inundate nearby low-lying areas and relief camps.
Waterlogging has been reported near the Delhi Secretariat, which houses the offices of the Chief Minister and cabinet ministers. Relief camps in flood-prone regions such as Mayur Vihar Phase-I have also been flooded. Additionally, areas like Monastery Market and Yamuna Bazar remain submerged due to the heavy rainfall.
Earlier in the day, a section of the flyover on National Highway 44 near the Alipur police station area caved in amid incessant rains. The incident occurred at around 6 am, with visuals showing a damaged auto near the collapsed road portion. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties so far.
Civil Lines, near Chandgi Ram Akhada, has witnessed severe waterlogging as well. According to authorities, over 8,000 people have been evacuated to temporary tents, while more than 2,000 individuals have been relocated to permanent shelters for their safety.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across Delhi and surrounding areas, including Noida, Gurugram, and Faridabad. Residents are advised to stay cautious and follow safety guidelines amid the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
