As India gears up to face Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, opener Abhishek Sharma is on the verge of breaking multiple T20 International (T20I) records.
The 25-year-old batsman has been in phenomenal form throughout the tournament. He has amassed a total of 309 runs across six innings, boasting an impressive average of 51.50 and a strike rate exceeding 200. Sharma currently stands as the leading run-scorer of the event and has demonstrated consistent brilliance with three consecutive fifties during the Super Four stage.
**Chasing Virat Kohli’s Record**
One of Sharma’s key targets is to surpass Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs scored by an Indian in a multi-nation T20I tournament. Kohli had scored 319 runs during the 2014 T20 World Cup, maintaining an average of over 100. Sharma is just 11 runs short of this milestone, and his current form suggests he could achieve this feat in the final against Pakistan. Notably, Sharma already holds the record for the most runs scored in a T20 Asia Cup edition.
**Eyeing Phil Salt’s Record**
In addition to Kohli’s record, Sharma is also closing in on England’s Phil Salt’s tally for the most runs scored by a batter from a Test-playing nation in a T20I tournament or series. Salt had accumulated 331 runs during the 2023 West Indies series. Sharma requires only 23 more runs to break this record—a target well within reach given his current red-hot form.
**Setting a New Benchmark for Consistency**
Another milestone on Sharma’s horizon is the record for the most consecutive 30-plus scores in T20 cricket. Currently, this record is jointly held by Rohit Sharma and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan, each with seven consecutive innings scoring 30 or more runs. With one more solid performance, Abhishek Sharma can set a new benchmark for consistency in T20 cricket.
