Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s recent comments regarding the public bond between Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have ignited a significant controversy. The issue escalated further when fellow BJP minister Vijay Shah expressed support for Vijayvargiya’s views.

Speaking at an event in Khandwa, Vijay Shah stated, “This is not our culture; our civilization, customs, and traditions do not teach this,” referring to the public displays of affection between siblings. He added, “She is also my real sister, so would I kiss her in public? Indian culture and civilization do not teach this.”

### Widespread Public Backlash and Congress Protests

Shah’s remarks sparked widespread criticism, with many calling the comments regressive and out of touch with contemporary societal norms. The Congress party responded strongly, organizing statewide protests against the BJP leaders’ statements.

Protesters condemned the remarks as abusive and derogatory, going as far as burning effigies of both Kailash Vijayvargiya and Vijay Shah. The expressions of dissent highlighted the deep political and ideological divide surrounding cultural interpretations.

### Congress Demands Resignation of BJP Ministers

In reaction to the controversy, Congress spokesperson KK Mishra criticized the BJP for not taking any action against its ministers who allegedly use abusive language publicly.

State Congress president Jitu Patwari called Vijayvargiya’s statements “disgusting” and described them as a direct challenge to Indian culture. Patwari further demanded the resignation of both BJP ministers, accusing Vijayvargiya of frustration over not securing the Chief Minister position.

### Past Controversies Surrounding Vijay Shah

This episode is not Shah’s first brush with controversy. Earlier in May, he sparked outrage with a highly contentious statement about Colonel Sophia Qureshi following “Operation Sindoor.” Shah had said, “Those who destroyed the vermillion of our daughters, send their sisters to strip those mutilated people naked.” He later issued an apology for those remarks.

Now, with Shah backing Vijayvargiya’s current stance, the controversy has intensified, turning into a political storm. Both ministers face accusations of misrepresenting cultural values for political leverage.
