1980 International Harvester Scout II Traveler 345 4×4
This 1980 International Harvester Scout II Traveltop has been thoughtfully refurbished, combining classic appeal with upgraded features to enhance both performance and aesthetics.
Under previous ownership, the Scout was repainted in Canyon Black and underwent extensive mechanical work. This included installing a Skyjacker 2-inch suspension lift kit, overhauling the entire brake system — replacing the master cylinder, hoses, calipers, pads, wheel cylinders, and shoes — and resealing the engine. Additional engine maintenance involved replacing the radiator, water pump, thermostat, fuel pump, coolant hoses, piston rings, rod bearings, spark plugs, ignition wires, and distributor components.
The 345ci V8 engine, factory rated at 196 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque, has been upgraded with a Holley 670-cfm carburetor for improved performance. Power is delivered through a three-speed automatic transmission paired with a two-speed transfer case, allowing for switchable rear- or four-wheel drive. The drivetrain also features manually locking front hubs and power steering for ease of handling.
Since being acquired by the current seller in 2025, additional enhancements have been made to further elevate the vehicle’s style and functionality. These include retrofitting 17″ Method MR312 wheels wrapped in 285/70 BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/A white-letter tires, applying gold Rallye-style bodyside graphics, and painting the roof cap to match the Canyon Black body color. Aftermarket steel bumpers and Hella driving lights have also been added, complemented by ceramic window tint film for added comfort and privacy.
The Traveltop hardtop is removable, while window features include front vent windows and sliding rear side windows. Practical additions such as a luggage rack, split railgate, and a receiver hitch enhance the vehicle’s utility.
Inside, the Scout II offers Russet plaid nylon and vinyl upholstery on the front bucket seats and folding rear bench. The cabin is equipped with a center console, wind-up windows, front and rear lap belts, and air conditioning — although the clock and dome light are currently not operational. Under previous ownership, the turn signal and headlight switches, along with the air conditioning hoses, dryer, and blower motor, were replaced. The shifter bezel has been updated under current ownership.
Instrumentation is presented through a horizontal 85-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges measuring coolant temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and fuel level. The three-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a tilting steering column for added driver comfort. The ignition switch and tumblers have also been replaced. The five-digit odometer is believed to have rolled over once and currently displays 21,000 miles, with approximately 300 miles added under current ownership.
This Scout II is offered with a line-setting ticket, which provides factory equipment and production information, along with the original November 1980 bill of sale from International Harvester. It holds a clean Georgia title in the seller’s name.
Overall, this 1980 International Harvester Scout II Traveltop represents a well-maintained, tasteful blend of originality and thoughtful upgrades — a standout example ready for both daily driving and weekend adventures.
