“You’ll make a great governor” – Phil Mickelson backs Republican party member to be the next governnor of Florida
Phil Mickelson has often expressed his views on US politics, and he recently extended his support to Byron Donalds, a Republican candidate. Since February, Donalds has been making major headlines after announcing his candidacy for Florida’s upcoming gubernatorial election.
In his announcement post, Donalds shared a personal story about his journey to success. He described how, at 17, he arrived in Florida with nothing but a trunk full of clothing and a big dream. Now, he aims to make Florida the best state in the USA. His post reads:
> “I arrived in the Sunshine State at 17 years old on a Greyhound bus, with a trunk full of clothes and a dream. Now is the time to keep the best state in the country as the best state in the country. Tonight, I am proud to announce my candidacy to be the next governor of Florida.”
Phil Mickelson expressed gratitude to Donalds in the comments section of this post, which was uploaded on November 14. Mickelson wished Byron Donalds the best of luck and stated that he has the potential to be a great governor someday. Here is his reply:
> “You will make a great governor! Wishing you all the best 🫡”

### Phil Mickelson on Politics: “I’m Not Qualified”
Apart from supporting Byron Donalds, Phil Mickelson recently responded to a fan who suggested he run for the Republican nomination in the future.
This interaction began after Mickelson commented on an incident involving a retired veteran who was charged with murder after attacking three teenagers who broke into his home. Mickelson shared his opinion on social media, stating that the veteran’s actions were self-defense and the charges should be dismissed.
A fan retweeted Mickelson’s remark, arguing that the golfer should be drafted as a Republican nominee in 2028 due to his strong support for law enforcement. The fan’s post read:
> “We need to draft Phil Mickelson to be the Republican nominee in 2028. This is only 1 of many reasons. Very pro law and order.”
Mickelson responded by explaining that he does not feel qualified for politics. He admitted that his views can be extreme before settling in the middle, and elaborated on his stance:
> “I don’t feel qualified for politics, and my views can be extreme before leveling out in the middle. Meaning I would give every citizen the right to protect themselves, their property, their business, and others by any means necessary. If the DA were to charge anyone for doing so, I’d immediately pardon them. This is too extreme for CA and the country, but I feel extremes are necessary in order to balance things out.”

Currently, Phil Mickelson is taking a break from professional golf and hopes to participate in the LIV Golf circuit next season. As for his political involvement, it appears he is choosing to express his views but remains cautious about pursuing a political career.
