National retailer changes its return policy: What shoppers need to know
A major retailer has loosened up its return policy this holiday season. Titled “How to Shop and Save at Target this Holiday Season,” it includes information on topics such as exclusive offerings, a Holiday Price Match Guarantee and digital shopping tools. Target says its general policy is to offer free returns on most new, unopened items within 90 days of purchase, and 365 days for Target-brand items with a receipt. But the normal window is 30 days for most items bought from third-party sellers in the “Target Plus” program, and some items including electronics have different policies. The change applies to purchases made between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24. It affects the following categories of items: Electronics & Entertainment items (excluding Apple and Beats): Customers will have 30 days from Dec. 26. Items must be returned by Jan. 24, 2026. Apple & Beats products and mobile phones (unlocked or pre-paid): Customers will have 14 days from Dec. 26. Items must be returned by Jan. 9, 2026. Target Plus items: Most Target Plus items will be eligible for returns for 30 days starting Dec. 26. Items must be returned by Jan. 24. This does not apply to seasonal holiday décor items.
