Jammu & Kashmir News: Massive Search Operation Launched In Kokernag To Trace 2 Missing Soldiers
Srinagar: Security forces have launched a massive search operation in the forests of the Kokernag area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district to locate two missing soldiers. The soldiers lost contact during a combing exercise aimed at tracking down terrorists in the region, officials said on Wednesday.
The combing operation began two days ago in the Ahlan Gadole area of Kokernag, following intelligence inputs that a group of terrorists was hiding there. However, two soldiers from the elite para unit went missing after their communication line was lost, officials added.
In response, helicopters have been deployed for aerial reconnaissance in an effort to locate the missing personnel.
The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Army reported that the operational team encountered a severe snowstorm on Monday night. In a post on its X handle, the Chinar Corps stated, “On the intervening night of October 6-7, an operational team in the Kishtwar range confronted a severe snowstorm and whiteout conditions in the mountains of South Kashmir. Since then, two soldiers have gone out of communication.”
Search and rescue operations are currently underway. However, the efforts have been hampered by adverse weather conditions. The Chinar Corps cautioned that intense search and rescue missions are ongoing, but the prevailing weather is making progress difficult.
