Intel Files Lawsuit Against Ex-Employee Over Alleged Corporate Sabotage
Intel has launched a lawsuit against a former employee, Jinfeng Luo, accusing him of carrying out a serious act of corporate sabotage. According to Intel, Luo copied approximately 18,000 files from the company’s servers before disappearing.
The lawsuit, filed in Seattle District Court and reported by The Oregonian, alleges that Luo’s actions resulted in around $250,000 worth of damages. Intel hopes to seek compensation should Luo reappear.
Background on the Incident
Luo was reportedly among the employees scheduled to be laid off by the end of 2025. He was informed of his termination on July 7, with his employment set to end by July 31. Following this notification, Luo attempted to copy company data using external storage devices.
Initially, Luo plugged an external drive into company hardware but was locked out by security measures. About five days later, he succeeded in connecting another storage device and copying around 18,000 files. Intel claims that some of these files contained “top secret” and “confidential” company materials.
Company Response and Investigation
The large-scale data transfer triggered an internal investigation at Intel. The company has since been attempting to contact Luo at three different addresses but has been unsuccessful. Luo’s whereabouts remain unknown, and he has not responded to any attempts at communication.
Intel’s legal action underscores the severity of the alleged data breach and highlights the challenges companies face in protecting sensitive information during employee transitions. The case continues to develop as Intel seeks to hold Luo accountable for the alleged damages.
