Eddie Howe isn’t known for making frequent changes to his line-up, but Gordon’s injury could force a minor tweak to the team’s setup for this weekend’s clash. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Magpies boss confirmed that Gordon is in a race against time to be fit for the Brentford game. However, the England international is unlikely to feature in this must-win encounter.
Gordon’s unavailability means Howe will likely make just one change to the side that comfortably dispatched Athletic Club in midweek. Nick Pope is expected to retain his place in goal after keeping a clean sheet in the Champions League.
Dan Burn, who scored a sublime header midweek, should line up alongside Sven Botman, Malick Thiaw, and Kieran Trippier in defence. In midfield, Joelinton will fancy his chances of scoring in back-to-back games alongside Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães.
With Gordon out, Harvey Barnes is in line to make his first Premier League start in nearly two months. He will likely link up with Nick Woltemade and Jacob Murphy in the frontline.
