Elks Hoop Shoot set for Dec. 7 at MHS

The Madras competition of the Elks National Hoop Shoot is Sunday, Dec. 7 at Madras High School. Registration begins at the school at 9 a. m. The Hoop Shoot is open to all boys and girls ages 8-13 (age is determined by how old you are on April 1, 2026). Trophies and basketballs will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division, and the first-place winners will advance to the district competition in John Day. Winners at the district level have the opportunity to advance to the state, regional and national levels. The national finals are in Chicago, Illinois. The Hoop Shoot was founded by Frank Hise, a Corvallis Elk member, in 1946. All divisions shoot at a 10-foot hoop. All divisions shoot with a 28. 5 inch basketball except the 12-13 boys. The 8-9 boys and girls shoot from 11 feet while all other divisions shoot from 15 feet. Participants cannot step on or over the free throw line until the ball touches the rim, backboard or net.
