Donald Trump Issues College Sports Warnings: ‘Bad Things Going to Happen’
President Donald Trump expressed his support for implementing a salary cap in college sports, citing concerns about the escalating costs schools face to attract top recruits.
Speaking on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Trump highlighted that college programs now require “NFL-type payrolls” to remain competitive. He warned that “bad things are going to happen unless they figure this out,” emphasizing the need for regulation in college sports spending.
Trump also pointed out that “colleges don’t make that much money,” suggesting that limits on spending should mirror those found in professional leagues.
In addition to his comments on college sports salaries, the president renewed his criticism of the NFL’s revised kickoff rule. He described the rule change as “so unromantic” and expressed hope that college football would not adopt similar measures.
