Denise Richards appears to prove Charlie Sheen wrong with photo of uncashed $1M check

Denise Richards has denied cashing a million-dollar check from her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen. The actress shared proof with her Instagram followers—a photo of the uncashed check—tagging Sheen and adding the song “Money” by Pink Floyd.

In her Instagram story, Richards wrote, “Found this during my recent move. I never cashed it, @CharlieSheen. Is it still good?!” The check was dated December 24, 2011, which is five years after their divorce was finalized.

Richards posted the image just days after Sheen claimed on the “KFC Radio” podcast that he wrote her a check for a million dollars and was surprised when she cashed it a month later. However, Sheen did not clarify exactly when he wrote the check, saying he couldn’t remember if it was during their marriage or after their divorce.

The “Two and a Half Men” star explained the check was more of a symbolic gift, likely for her birthday, although he couldn’t recall the exact occasion. Richards’ birthday is February 17, while the check was dated in December.

“I mean, I don’t think she’ll be too mad,” Sheen said on his podcast, referring to Richards being upset that he shared the story. “I wrote a check to Denise once for a million dollars on her birthday kind of as a joke, and she kept it not as a joke.”

He added, “And then, like a month later, f– cashed it, which makes it sting more.” Sheen, who has been sober for nearly eight years, remarked that he probably would have cashed it too, but wished she had let him know beforehand.

“She couldn’t let me know just maybe the day of. ‘Hey, you sound like you’re driving somewhere.’ ‘Yeah, to the bank, actually!’” he recalled. Fortunately for Sheen, he was grateful the check didn’t bounce.

Richards and Sheen were married in 2002 and separated in March 2005 when she was six months pregnant with their second child, daughter Lola. They also share a daughter named Sami. After a brief reconciliation five months following their separation, the couple finalized their divorce in 2006.

Their relationship after marriage was often contentious, involving Sheen criticizing Richards on Twitter and Richards suing him in 2016. In 2020, Richards opened up about leaving Sheen while pregnant on an episode of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” She said, “When I got pregnant with Lola, things started to change rapidly. It was a very dark time and very toxic. And I filed for divorce when I was 6 months pregnant with her. I always did whatever I could to hide Charlie’s behavior.”

Today, Richards and Sheen maintain an amicable relationship. Richards is also on good terms with Sheen’s third ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, with whom he shares twin sons Max and Bob.

Currently, Richards is going through a divorce from Aaron Phypers after six years of marriage. She has accused Phypers of physical and emotional abuse, providing court with images of an alleged black eye she received following an altercation.

Last week, Phypers was arrested and charged with four felonies: two counts of injuring a spouse and two counts of dissuading a witness by force or threat. He posted $200,000 bail hours after his arrest.

Richards testified that her estranged husband tried to damage her reputation by allegedly leaking nude images and claimed he stole her computer intending to share private information and images with news outlets.
