Capcom Cup 12 PPV pricing is being reviewed, but tickets will still likely be sold
Since Capcom began announcing major details for this year’s annual Street Fighter tournament, Capcom Cup 12, the news that fans will have to pay to watch the competition has sparked a wave of frustration worldwide. While this pay-per-view (PPV) model was already in place in Japan, extending it globally has unsettled viewers who were accustomed to watching Capcom Cup for free.
Capcom has acknowledged the complaints and promised to discuss the matter internally. However, the company has also reiterated that Capcom Cup tickets and PPV pricing will remain in effect worldwide as final details continue to be ironed out.
This week, Capcom provided updated information about Capcom Cup 12 via the Capcom Fighters social media channels. The company confirmed its intention to proceed with charging for both Capcom Cup and Street Fighter League events in a PPV format. Tickets to view the events are set to go on sale starting November 12, although pricing details are still under discussion.
Understandably, this announcement offers little comfort to critics who argue that it is unfair to suddenly impose charges for Capcom Cup viewing after years of free access. Despite this backlash, Capcom appears to be standing firm on its decision.
Interestingly, even the developers of Street Fighter 6 were reportedly caught off guard by the PPV announcement. At present, the only aspect still under review is ensuring that the pricing remains fair, but no finalized details have been announced.
Fans will have to wait for further updates to see how Capcom balances these changes with the community’s concerns.
