Brandon Miller ruled out for rest of 76ers game with shoulder injury
The Charlotte Hornets were looking to improve to 2-0 on the season as they squared off against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. However, to secure the win, they had to do so short-handed. Hornets wing Brandon Miller suffered a shoulder injury early in the second quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the game, according to longtime NBA insider Marc Stein.
The injury occurred when Miller was attempting to box out 76ers guard Quentin Grimes. He came away grabbing at his arm and was immediately taken to the locker room. Before leaving the game, Miller had contributed four points and one assist in nine minutes of play.
Miller, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, is one of the NBA’s most intriguing young talents. He had a very strong rookie season with the Hornets in 2023-24, finishing third in the league’s Rookie of the Year voting. Last season, he was off to a good start before suffering a wrist injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the year.
In total, Miller appeared in only 27 games last season, averaging just over 34 minutes per game. He posted impressive stats, including 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. His shooting splits were solid, with 40.3% from the field, 35.5% from three-point range, and 86.1% from the free-throw line.
During the Hornets’ opening night win against the Brooklyn Nets, Miller showcased his talent with 25 points, seven assists, one steal, and one blocked shot in 31 minutes. He shot 42.1% from the field and 70% from the free-throw line.
As of publication, the Hornets held a slim lead over the 76ers midway through the third quarter. LaMelo Ball and Collin Sexton were leading the way with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Off the bench, Pat Connaughton and Kob Knueppel each contributed ten points.
The Hornets will hope Miller recovers quickly as they look to maintain their strong start to the season.
