Bengals Coach Zac Taylor Warns Chase Brown After Critical Postgame Comments

There was plenty of blame to go around following the Cincinnati Bengals’ 47-42 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. However, running back Chase Brown, who rushed for 37 yards and added another 75 yards receiving, chose to point the finger squarely at Cincinnati’s defense.

“We put the ball in the end zone [in the final minute] and go up a point at the end,” Brown told reporters. “Finish the [expletive] game. Like, just end it. That’s it. That’s what we need to do. Just end the [expletive] game.”

To Chase’s point, the Bengals defense did surrender 576 yards to the Bears, including four touchdowns and a field goal on six drives in the second half. Cincinnati also allowed Chicago to drive 72 yards in 37 seconds to score the game-winning touchdown in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

The defensive lapses were glaring and ultimately costly. Allowing such a large number of yards and points late in the game was a key factor in the heartbreaking loss.

### Bengals Coach Responds to Brown’s Remarks

Justified or not, Chase’s remarks struck a nerve with Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, who addressed his running back’s comments during Monday’s press conference.

“Not if you’re not doing everything you can, on your own, and I’ve pointed it out with Chase,” Taylor said. “There were two big plays that we could’ve done better that would’ve led to points. And so, I think I liked [the reaction from] Ja’Marr [Chase] a little bit better. I can tell Ja’Marr’s frustrated, but he didn’t want guys coming at him if he had a poor performance or something that he was disappointed in.

“I trust that that’s a one-time thing, and we’ll learn from that. That’s not how we want to react, and one of our best players, one of our highest character players I think in moments of frustration said that, and I don’t expect it to happen again.”

### No Changes to Coaching Staff

Taylor also confirmed the Bengals will make no changes to his coaching staff, meaning defensive coordinator Al Golden’s job is safe for the time being.
