5 takeaways from the New York Jets’ 27-20 win over the Cleveland Browns
Don’t look now, but the New York Jets have won back-to-back games. The Jets (2-7) hosted the Cleveland Browns (2-7) at MetLife Stadium and emerged with a 27-20 victory. New York recorded some exciting plays to get this one over the finish line, even though some might have preferred a loss with the NFL draft in mind.
With that, here are Jets Wire’s five takeaways from the Jets’ win over the Browns:
**“Special” Teams**
The Jets won this game largely because of their special teams efforts. New York scored two first-half touchdowns thanks to that unit. Tying the game at 7-7 was Kene Nwangwu, who took a 99-yard kickoff return to the house right after the Browns’ opening touchdown. Moments later, Isaiah Williams added to the score with a 74-yard punt return touchdown.
**Nothing from Justin**
Just because the Jets won doesn’t mean the quarterback played well. Justin Fields was a mere 6-for-11 passing for just 54 yards. Fields did have a touchdown but also threw an interception. To put it into context, the offense’s success came despite an underwhelming performance from their QB.
**Breece Still Shows Up**
Prior to the 2025 NFL trade deadline, running back Breece Hall made it known that he wanted to be moved. However, he was not traded. On Sunday, Hall was locked in. He rushed for 83 yards, averaging 4.0 yards per carry. Then, he made his one catch count by taking it 42 yards to the house for a touchdown.
**Hello, Will**
The Jets defense did not face a top-tier quarterback in the Browns’ Dillon Gabriel. However, Cleveland is now questioning their starter after New York’s defense held him down, despite the Jets having traded away stars Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner. Above all, Will McDonald had an incredible performance with four total sacks in a single game. What a day for him.
**Still Playing for AG**
Finally, that’s a win after an emotional few weeks surrounding the trade deadline and the loss of Jets legend Nick Mangold. This victory showed that the Green and White are still playing for—and giving their best efforts for—head coach Aaron Glenn.
The Jets may be struggling in the standings, but their effort and determination remain strong as they push forward this season.
