3 least impressive Chicago Blackhawks players from 9-3 blowout win against Buffalo Sabres ft. Arvid Soderblom
The Chicago Blackhawks were on the wrong side of a 9-3 blowout loss against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night at the KeyBank Center. The Sabres jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead before Tyler Bertuzzi got the Blackhawks on the board. From there, it was all Buffalo as they notched a 6-2 lead. The Sabres added three more third-period goals to close out the shellacking. Josh Doan scored twice for the Buffalo Sabres, with Jason Zucker, Bowen Byram, Jack Quinn, Jacob Bryson, Ryan McLeod, Tage Thompson, and Mattias Samuelsson getting the other tallies. Meanwhile, Tyler Bertuzzi scored twice for the Chicago Blackhawks, with Alex Vlasic getting the other tally. So, here’s a look at the three least impressive Chicago Blackhawks from their 9-3 walloping at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night. 3 least impressive Chicago Blackhawks players from blowout loss to Buffalo Sabres #3 Ilya Mikheyev The Chicago Blackhawks veteran forward did not have his best game on Friday night. He hit the ice for over 16 minutes across 21 shifts. While he managed two shots on goal, he was on the ice for three of the Sabres’ tallies. Overall, Mikheyev, who is typically a reliable defensive forward, was unable to handle the Sabres back amid the rout. #2 Teuvo Teravainen Teuvo Teravainen was part of the Chicago Blackhawks’ beleaguered top six on the night. While Teravainen has played well this season, Friday night was definitely not a good showing for him. He skated for over 20 minutes on the night, but did not manage even one shot on goal. To make matters worse, he ended the night a minus-4. Tervainen was part of the Blackhawks’ second line that saw it get pummeled, as linemates Frank Nazar and Oliver Moore also ended the minus with a minus-4 rating. #1 Arvid Soderblom The Blackhawks left their backup goalie in the crease for the entire bloodbath. Soderblom surrendered nine goals on 30 shots. Eight of the goals were at even strength, with just one coming on the power play. Of course, Soderblom can’t be blamed for every goal. The shoddy defense in front of him allowed the Sabres to walk all over his team. It’s also mildly surprising to see that coach Jeff Blashill did not bring in Spencer Knight in relief. Perhaps Blashill didn’t want to use Knight, as he had played the night before the overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken. Be that as it may, Soderblom had a night to forget. The Blackhawks will try to snap their two-game skid as they take on the NHL’s best team, the Colorado Avalanche, on Sunday night at the United Center.
